WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The Tech Oversight Project launched a mobile billboard and national voter contact program as part of Antitrust Day on the Hill, a grassroots day of action uniting over 100 organizations and companies to advocate for the American Innovation and Choice Online Act (AICO) and the Open App Markets Act (OAMA). The national voter contact program will target active Democrats across the country, urging them to contact House and Senate leadership for the day of action. The call script urges leadership to rein in Big Tech monopolies like Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon by bringing AICO and OAMA to the floor for a vote. Both bills sailed through the Senate Judiciary Committee and are awaiting a vote on the Senate floor.

Both bills target anti-competitive behavior by big tech giants and restore user choice and competition to the online marketplace. AICO would prohibit tech platforms from favoring their own products or services, disadvantaging rivals, or discriminating among businesses that use their platforms. OAMA is targeted at a single market – app stores.

“While Big Tech is buying supporters, our side is building on national momentum, organizing, and mobilizing grassroots supporters to finally give us oversight over Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon. These monopolies have caused damage to families, small businesses, and our country. Now is the time to capitalize on broad bipartisan support to push the American Innovation and Choice Online Act and the Open App Markets Act over the finish line,” said Sacha Haworth, Executive Director of the Tech Oversight Project. “We are in a historic must-win situation, and we cannot take our foot off the gas. Passing these bills will hold Big Tech accountable for predatory practices and ensure they will never operate unchecked again.”

Antitrust Day on the Hill is a coordinated effort by like-minded businesses, as well as civil society organizations, consumer advocates, and open internet supporters.

Recently the Tech Oversight Project launched a TV ad slamming Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon for helping spread pro-Russia disinformation amid the Ukraine conflict – urging voters to contact their Member of Congress to pass antitrust reform. View the ad here.
