The Tech Oversight Project Launches TV Ad Slamming Big Tech for Long History of Concealing Truth, Lying to Congress

May 31, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The Tech Oversight Project launched a TV ad slamming Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon for their long history of concealing the truth, lying to Congress, and putting American children and families at risk. By amplifying recent news stories that call out Big Tech for hiding emails, misleading investors, and stonewalling a Congressional investigation, the spot makes the case that as the American Innovation and Choice Online Act and the Open App Market Act move through Congress, lawmakers should not trust the millions Big Tech is spending on ads and astroturf campaigns that push false narratives and lies. The ad will air on broadcast and cable channels in Arizona, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Nevada. View the ad here.

“Big Tech monopolies’ lengthy history of lying to Congress highlights their blatant disregard for lawmakers’ attempts to hold them accountable, and shows they’re not trustworthy actors in this debate,” said Sacha Haworth, Executive Director of the Tech Oversight Project. “With momentum continuing to build for the American Innovation and Choice Online Act and the Open App Market Act, we will continue to shine a light on Big Tech’s deceit, arm decision-makers with the facts, and punch back to help push antitrust legislation over the finish line.”

Recently, the Tech Oversight Project released a Hart Research poll showing overwhelming support for antitrust measures, including the American Innovation and Choice Online Act (AICO) and the Open App Markets Act (OAMA) in key Senate battleground states – Arizona, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Nevada. The survey results also tear apart Big Tech’s talking points and fearmongering – with vast majorities of respondents siding with supporters of antitrust legislation and wanting their Senator to vote for these bills. The survey release comes on the heels of an announcement that the antitrust package would be scheduled for a vote in the Senate early this summer, and a nationwide survey showing GenZ voters are also in favor of congressional action.
