WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The Tech Oversight Project applauds the Department of Justice (DOJ) for mounting an antitrust lawsuit against Google – alleging the search and advertising behemoth illegally monopolized the market for online ads through a years-long practice of self-dealing, anticompetitive acquisitions, and forcing businesses to use multiple products and services that it offers.
“Gone are the days of quack laissez-faire economic policies that allow a handful of tech giants to gobble up and manipulate markets,” said Kyle Morse, Deputy Executive Director of the Tech Oversight Project. “Google is rightfully being held accountable for years of abuse in the online marketplace that has limited competition and hurt consumers. We applaud the Biden Administration and Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter for pushing a pro-competition agenda that actually enforces antitrust laws on the books and protects the general public from untamed monopoly power. This lawsuit sends a message to Big Tech to rethink the way they conduct – otherwise, you’re next.”
