WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The Tech Oversight Project praised the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 17 states for opening a historic, pro-consumer antitrust case against Amazon – alleging “illegal conduct” in its online store and services to merchants, which stifled competition. “For far too long, Amazon has manipulated the online marketplace to position itself as the world’s largest digital retailer, and in the process, they jacked up prices, stole competitors’ products, and gate-kept consumers from better products,” said Sacha Haworth, Executive Director of the Tech Oversight Project. “The cost of doing nothing is too high and would be disastrous for our entire economy. That’s why we applaud the FTC and Chair Lina Khan for bringing forward this historic antitrust lawsuit, which, if successful, would pay dividends for American families through lower prices and better options.”
