Judge Mehta: “Google is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly.”
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The Tech Oversight Project issued the following statement after Judge Mehta issued an opinion finding that Google violated the Sherman Act and maintained an illegal monopoly in Search.
“For over a decade, Google bent the entire digital marketplace to its will – resulting in higher prices, less competition, and a degraded internet for everyone. When tech monopolies manipulate our economy, it hurts us all,” said Sacha Haworth, Executive Director of the Tech Oversight Project. “Today’s ruling is a victory for the American people and the idea that every company should play by the same set of rules. We thank the Department of Justice and the Biden-Harris Administration for prioritizing competition reform. This decision is a warning shot over the bow to tech monopolies: you will have your day in court, and justice will be served.”
