WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The Tech Oversight Project released a new survey from Public Policy Polling (PPP) showing broad national public support for FTC Chair Lina Khan and Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter’s leadership among Democrats, with 88% supporting Chair Khan and AAG Kanter’s record of holding price gougers and monopolies accountable. Notably, both enforcers received intense levels of support from respondents – with 80% and 77% of respondents saying they strongly supported Kanter and Khan’s records, respectively.

“Democratic voters want to build on the Biden-Harris Administration’s record of protecting competition, holding monopolies accountable for breaking the law, and lowering the cost of living for everyday families. This survey shows that FTC Chair Lina Khan and AAG Jonathan Kanter are earning high marks from Democrats for carrying out that agenda,” said Sacha Haworth, Executive Director of The Tech Oversight Project. “In fact, 80% of Democrats want to see the government do even more to take on monopolies, meaning Khan and Kanter are natural favorites to continue this work in a Harris Administration.”

The survey finds that a large majority of Democrats (80%) feel the government should be doing more to take on corporate monopoly power, and (89%) nationwide think lobbyists and executives for big corporations have too much influence over government officials.

In addition to broad support for general anti-monopoly enforcement, Democratic voters specifically support tackling monopolies in the tech industry. 77% said they believe that Big Tech companies use monopoly power to hurt consumers and destroy small businesses and should be held accountable.

PPP conducted the survey of 625 Democrats from September 18-19, 2024.
