WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The Tech Oversight Project issued the following statement slamming Apple for its attempts to hijack the remedy phase of the Google search trial in order to protect its default search agreement and access to Google data.
“The next time Big Tech claims there is plenty of competition already, remember that Google, Apple, Meta, and Amazon are eager to protect one another’s turf and cut deals behind closed doors. Apple’s tactics are an 11th hour effort to protect its 25-billion-dollar bribe payments by hijacking the remedy process,” said Sacha Haworth, Executive Director of The Tech Oversight Project. “Apple doesn’t want to see Google broken up because their smartphone monopoly relies heavily on Google’s monopolies in search and data. These companies are so intertwined that the only recourse is strong structural separation to restore competition and level the playing field.”
